Michael Hoenig was part of the 'Berlin school' of 1970s German music and replaced Peter Baumann in Tangerine Dream for a World Tour ... Departures was recorded soon after that ...

While recording Departures, Hoenig was also preparing for a tour with Manuel
Göttsching of AshRa (which never happened eventually).  One of the rehearsal sessions was recorded and produced the Early Water album twenty years later ...

"We rehearsed in my place for three or four weeks. One evening we got a call regarding some missing guarantee, which ultimately led to the decision to cancel the tour. Just for fun, we played one of the planned sets for a last time. Even though I do not recall pressing a record button, somebody recently dug up a Revox tape of that very set. After performing some digital sonic archaeology on it, it was just released under the very appropriate title Early Water. [...] MH Early Water ...




After having a record contract cancelled at the turn of the 1980s, MH moved immediately to become musical Director of Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi...

This led to career in film and TV, producing the soundtrack to Dark Skies ... (the NBC series).
